Spruce River Highway (Highway 527 to Armstrong) - Gateway to Wabakimi
Spruce River Road (Highway 527) is an area that offers cottaging, fishing, hunting and Crown land camping. There are also five identified prime lake trout lakes, numerous brook trout streams, raptor nest sites and interesting earth science features.
Armstrong, located at the end of this highway, 150 miles (249 km) north of Thunder Bay, is the gateway to wilderness adventure in Wabakimi Park, the Abany River watershed and the vast expanse of forests and lakes north of the Albany. First class fly-in and train-in outfitters can deliver you to remote outpost cabins and canoe routes on lightly fished lakes and rivers, where you’ll find an abundance of big walleyes, Northern pike and trout. Drive-in fishing is also available up the Holinshead Lake Road.
