The Drive to Lakehead University
| Our son was accepted into Lakehead University and decided to go to LU over other universities because of all the good things people had to say about the university and the City of Thunder Bay. As parents we were excited about the opportunity aheadfor our son but at the same time we were sad to see him leave and be so far away from home for such a long period of time |

To help with the transition in our lives, as a family we decided that we would turn our sons move to
Thunder Bay into a vacation, to experience the north and all of its scenic beauty. This vacation would also give us an opportunity to bond as a family and with our son before we would have to drop him off at university and let him grow into a man.
With that said instead of driving from Southern Ontario to Thunder Bay in one shot, we broke the trip into a week long vacation so that we could experience the north and all it had to offer. The first day we drove from Kitchener to Sudbury Ontario. While in Sudbury we visited Science North and the Big Nickel.
We then made our way to Sault Ste Marie Ontario where we went on a Lock Tour, gambled and won at the casino, and took the amazing Agawa Canyon Tour train.
After a great stay in "The Soo" we made our way along the scenic north shore of Lake Superior. Along this spectacular drive we pulled over in every picnic area and scenic look out to take pictures and dip our toes in the lake. We also ventured into every unique local community along the way to experience the north and all it has to offer.
We stopped in Wawa, Ontario to get a photo with the Big Goose, pulled into White River, Ontario to get a photo with Winne the Pooh, drove into Marathon and relaxed on the beautiful Pebble Beach, and camped at the amazing Neys Provincal Park at which we had some great conversations around the fire after swimming in Lake Superior for the first time.
The beautiful Terrace Bay beach was the next stop followed by a visit to the breathtaking Aguasabon Gorge and Falls. In Schreiber we learned about the railway history of the North by visiting the Schreiber Heritage Museum and lastly in Nipigon we went shopping in their local shopping district and checked out the Paddle to the Sea Park.
Upon arriving in Thunder Bay we would stayed the Prince Arthur Hotel which had a beautiful view of the waterfront and the world famous Sleeping Giant. While in the Thunder Bay area we also drove up to the Top of Mt. Mckay, visited the Niagara of the North, Kakabeka Falls, was moved by the Terry Fox Mounument and then finally moved our son into his dorm at Lakehead University.
The whole trip was truly amazing and a great way to spendquality time with our son before we had to say goodbye. The memories from this journey will last us a lifetime and we are so glad we decided to turn the drive into a vacation as we would have missed out on this amazing experience otherwise! We cant wait to do it again when we go to pick him up!
