Getting Here
The North of Superior Travel Region is very easy to get to. We are very proud of our extensive and well-maintained transportation systems that make travel in and out of our region very accessible from air to land to water.
Major international, domestic and regional airlines like Westjet, Air Canada, Northwest Airlines, Wasaya Air and Bearskin Air provide speedy travel throughout our region and the rest of Northern Ontario, to other parts of Canada, the United States and overseas.
Car rental companies, airport taxi and shuttle services are situated right in the Thunder Bay International Airport and can transport you to anywhere in our region.
Greyhound Bus lines and Via Rail routes span the entire NOSTA region and offer services that can be tailored to suit any budget, while marina services provide dependable transportation services for those arriving by water.
Highway Travel
Travelling east or west by automobile across Canada you will have to drive right through our region in fact the Trans Canada Highways Hwy 17, 11 and 11/17 are the main thoroughfares across the North of Superior Tourism region! At one point in your journey through the NOSTA region the 100km drive between Nipigon and Thunder Bay (the Terry Fox Courage Highway) is the only way to drive across Canada by automobile.
If you are coming from the U.S. drive north on Hwy 61 from Duluth, Minnesota and through Grand Maris, Minnesota directly to our regions easily accessible Ontario/Minnesota border crossing at Pigeon River. The border is open year-round 24 hours a day!
Its only a short 35-minute drive from Grand Maris to the U.S./Canada border and the scenery along the shore of Lake Superior north of Grand Maris is unbelievably speculator. Why not stop at the Grand Portage Casino and their brand new Trading Post on the way up?
Airports
Thunder Bay International Airport services international and national airlines to and from the NOSTA region, including WestJet, Air Canada, and Northwest Airlines. Regional Airlines provide service within the NOSTA region and Northern Ontario, including Bearskin Airlines and Wasaya Airways servicing Northern Ontario.
Train Lines
VIA Rail Canada offers passenger service in Northern Ontario, with express service available between larger communities on most routes. Ontario Northland Rail Services provides four different routes throughout Ontario's north, with service to and from Toronto.
Buses / Car Rental Services /Taxis and Airport Shuttles
Bus lines offer service throughout Ontario, with Greyhound serving most of the NOSTA region. Car rental companies such as Enterprise are located in Thunder Bay and area with locations at Thunder Bay Regional Airport. Taxi and airport shuttle services offer transportation to and from major airports in Ontario, some with door-to-door service, such as Prestige Wilderness Shuttles.

Ontario boasts hundreds of marinas, in every region of the province. You'll find a list of marinas through the Ontario Marine Operators Association.
